A sculpting massage is the opposite of a relaxing massage: it uses firm, fast, intense movements to boost local circulation and work the tissues mechanically.

It is usually combined with drainage techniques, because mobilising is not enough — the body also needs help to eliminate. It is one of the most requested body treatments at our centre in Lisbon, especially together with pressotherapy.

It is also known as a slimming or contouring massage. The names promise more than the massage does: it works on circulation, the look of cellulite and body contour, but it does not make you lose weight on its own — and we would rather say so from the start.

What a sculpting massage works on

  • Better circulation in the treated areas
  • Mechanical work on the look of cellulite
  • Support in shaping the body contour
  • Less feeling of abdominal volume
  • Good results when combined with pressotherapy

What happens in the session

  1. Choice of the areas to work on and your goals.
  2. Check for contraindications.
  3. Firm, rhythmic movements on the chosen areas.
  4. A drainage phase to support elimination.
  5. Advice on hydration and continuity.

What is realistic to expect

A sculpting massage works best as part of a whole — regular sessions, good hydration and physical activity. It does not replace any of those and does not cause weight loss on its own. The first sessions can leave some tenderness or small marks, which is normal and passes.

To work on contour and cellulite, it works best in regular sessions close together, followed by spaced-out maintenance.

Yes. The most common combination is with pressotherapy and lymphatic drainage, which complement the mechanical work with the elimination side.

They are names used for the same type of massage, with firm, rhythmic movements. It helps boost circulation and improve the look of cellulite and contour, but it does not remove fat or replace a balanced diet and exercise.
